Actor Sanjay Dutt will be released by 10 am on Thursday from Yerwada Central Jail with Rs 440, that he earned by making paper bags while serving his jail term spanning nearly 28 months.

The interesting thing is that the jailed actor has been making paper bags during this period and his earnings are worth less than peanuts for him. An actor like him pulls in more than Rs one crore on a daily basis while on a shoot, while in jail, he has been earning Rs 15 per month – put into perspective, that’s around 50 paise per day. Can you even buy anything for 50 paise any more?

Meanwhile, senior jail officials told Firstpost that no farewell ceremony will be organised for him in jail. Although Dutt is a renowned Bollywood star, he will be taken to the judicial section where his body mark identifications will be verified against those registered when he was taken to jail.

The 56-year-old celebrity prisoner will be released after serving the remainder of his five-year sentence for possession of illegal arms in the 12 March, 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts case. Dutt is scheduled to step out of jail at around 10 am on Thursday, and will be received by his wife Manyata, children and close friends.

As part of his five-year sentence, Dutt has served more than 50 months in two installments – excluding the parole and furlough he was granted at various times, and on different grounds.

For his latest stint, Dutt went to prison on 21 May, 2013. the jail authority sanctions his furlough leave in October 2013. It were extended by 14 days. Then, the actor sanctioned parole in 2014. This was also extended, this time by days. Once again, the jail authority sanctioned a furlough of 14 days for him in 2014. The leave was then increased by two days.

Sanjay Dutt comes out of jail before almost eight months or 256 days before the end of his term.

But, according to Additional Director-General (Jail) Dr Bhushan Upadhyay, Dutt has completed his sentence. He had already served 18 months in jail when he was sentenced to five years imprisonment by the Supreme Court, and from the remaining 42 months, he was given seven days remission for good behaviour every month, said Dr Upadhyay.
