Giving the term ‘long-haul flights’ a whole new meaning, Qatar Airways is planning to launch the world’s longest direct flight from Doha to Auckland, reports The Guardian.

The record-breaking journey will take about 18 hours and 34 minutes to cover a distance of 9,034 miles. This will be two hours longer than the current longest flight – Dallas to Sydney, operated by Qantas, takes some 16 hours and 55 minutes to make a journey of 8,578 miles.

Almost a week ago, Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker told Bloomberg Business about their plan to launch “ultra-long haul” flights to Santiago and Auckland. Now, reports suggest that the Doha to Auckland flight will be an extension of this plan.

Qatar plans to use the Boeing 777-LR aircraft, which can carry 259 passengers.
