Life Tips With Life Coach : Nina Ganguli

Q: Hi Nina, I’m in my mid forties and have recently been laid off from my job. I have been applying to any job that I feel meet my qualifications but am not getting much response. I am worried that I won’t find a job that will be similar to the one I had. Am I too old for the market now?
A: I am sorry to hear of your current situation. There are several factors to consider here. First, how does your resume represent what value you bring to an organization? Before you are considered for an interview, your resume is the only thing the hiring manager has to work from. Make sure you have a resume that suits the job you apply for as well as highlights what skills, experience and qualifications you bring to the table. Second, how competitive is the market out there for the jobs you are applying for? This will also lead back to the first point about what value you can bring in a competitive market. Third, have you told everyone in your network that you are looking for a job and have you met up with those people who can strategically partner with you in your job search? Last but certainly not least; since you are in the second phase of your life, really think about how the companies that you are applying for fit into your personality and your values. While it is important to get a job, it’s also important to find one that means something to you so there is more overall balance. Don’t give up hope, keep moving forward, get out there and talk to as many people as you can, you never know what may come up! Best of luck!
It’s my honour to serve you! God Bless!
