Basically we are insane! We wake up every morning going about our day, hoping that something will change even though we are doing the same thing with the same mindset engaged in the same old routine! So basically the majority of humanity is insane right? Isn’t the definition of insanity doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result?
The interesting thing is that many of us want change, but we don’t want to do what it takes to change and then we complain that life sucks! Here is your wakeup call out of the insanity! If you want something different in your life, you are going to have to do something different.
Honestly, I am tired of people who want the world to change, yet they are unwilling to do anything about it. I am tired of all complainers who think something out there has to change in order for their world to be different. Gandhi said “Be the change you want to see in the world” there is no truer saying than this!
If you want your quality of life to be different, begin with the quality of your thinking! Take a hard look in the mirror and take stalk of what is going on inside that head of yours! It’s time for some serious self reflection! I’m not saying beat yourself up and berate yourself. I am saying, challenge the way you think about your experience in the world and your responsibility in it.
My father was infamous for blaming everyone else for his actions and his feelings. Everything happened to him instead of because of his own actions. For example, he was in charge of the finances and he was terrible at managing them. He was always in the hole, was constantly stressed out about money and blamed us because he was spending money to get us the things we wanted. Ummm let’s think about that for a minute. He had control of the finances; my mom didn’t spend a cent without consulting with him, it was the same for me and my brother. But it was our fault that he spent money on the plethora of things we never needed, it was our fault that we were in debt! It was our fault that he was stressed out! That’s just one example of what he blamed us for. There are many more, but that’s not relevant for the point that I am making here. What I want you to notice is that it’s easy to blame others rather than take on the responsibility of your own action; it’s easier to hold others accountable rather than yourself! Jesus said:
3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
Matthew 7:3-5
It’s so easy to point fingers and blame other when change doesn’t happen. It’s so easy to say, I can’t do this or that, it’s effortless to jump in the back seat and be a backseat driver! It’s easy to tell other people to change or what they should or should not being doing! Yes it’s easy and it’s crazy and it has to stop!
STOP THE INSANITY!
Stop giving away your control! Stop telling yourself it’s not your problem! Stop pointing to others! Start looking inwards and start repairing your fractured thinking! I get that crap happens and that life is hard sometimes and things will not always work out the way you want them to, hey that’s life so get over it!
Okay enough about our fractured thinking, now onto some actual steps you can take to get out of the insanity!
1. Stop and think, I mean really stop and think about the situation at hand, what is your role or responsibility in it. Start with you first! If you want to lose weight for example, don’t blame your mother or your wife for what you are eating! You get to choose what you put in your mouth. Will you rock the boat by doing something different? Maybe, but what’s worse, being unhealthy and perhaps suffering with a multitude of health issues or challenging the food status quo? If you do the cooking, and groceries you get to decide what is bought and cooked. Will you get resistance, perhaps but nothing good comes easy! Okay maybe some stuff but most things require work!
2. Make small changes! It’s easier to change when the changes are small and overtime these compound to bigger changes. In the example above, if your wife or mother is doing the cooking and you want to lose weight, maybe you just don’t take rice. That way, you are not “rocking the boat” but you are taking control and making a small change that has a big impact over time. Or you just take less food or eat less of it! You can do the same even if you are the one cooking.
3. Hold yourself accountable! This has to be the most challenging mindset shift of all! I know because I struggle with this one all the time! Whether is weight loss, running a business, or writing a book or whatever, you have to hold yourself accountable to the changes you want to make. You have to decide that it’s worth it and you are committed to the outcome!
Alright! I hope that I have given you something to think about because I want you have be happy, have the life you want and feel a little less insanity!
It’s my honour to serve you! God Bless!
