Donald Trump, a billionaire real estate Mogul as per media reports is one of the most favored Republican hopefuls in US Presidential poll 2016. But would he cross all the hurdles before he makes for White House to take over as President in November 8 poll is a million Dollar question. During his Primaries campaigns, Trump got media’s free publicity not for some good reasons but for his light-hearted, ridiculous and at times lewd remarks made against many others.
Donald Trump’s inflammatory and buffoonery commentaries made against America’s neighbors, immigrants, minorities and women folk helped him to gather a rowdy far right crowd of white Americans around him and if elected, he vows to change America’s face.
Such a situation developing across border South of us in course of presidential poll campaigns isn’t well received here. Canadians are a worried lot on this score because US isn’t just another neighbor for them but also their biggest trade partner. Long back, destiny had put their economy and polity in the same basket.
Trump’s campaign
During his campaigns, Donald Trump promises to impose tariff to restrict international trade, he talks of building walls around US borders. Speaks like Hitler, quotes Mussolini, and could takes in Mahatma Gandhi or whatsoever comes handy to beat his opponents. Whosoever counsels him to be nice in his expressions, invites his wrath, even Pope Francis wasn’t spared when he asked Trump to build bridges instead of Walls.
Donald Trump has slandered Mexicans, Muslims, the working poor, and all his opponents. He once asked his supporters to throw one person out from the event just because he appeared to member of a minority community He declared to ‘pay the legal fees’ to one of his campaign managers who punched his opponent who dared to bother him.
He advocates the use of torture and the murder of terrorists’ families and compares refugees to ‘snakes,’ and made ‘Islam hates us” claims. In one event he became furious and asked people to throw someone out into sub-zero weather without his coat. He is determined to redraw US economic, political and social portrait in totally different colors and context. Such gaffes, notwithstanding, Trump has succeeded in rocking US politics with his inflammatory speeches and far-right stances that made him the front runner unfortunately!
In an editorial in The Washington Post, a Harvard professor compared the surprise rise of this US business tycoon to Adolf Hitler seizing power in Germany. She writes, “I have spent my life perplexed about exactly how Hitler could have come to power in Germany,” she said. “Watching Donald Trump’s rise, I now understand.”
Poor grasp over matters
It is interesting to note Trump’s understanding (or lack of it), about some of the major issues that US and world face today. For example, he defined global warming as a hoax perpetrated by the Chinese. It demonstrates nothing but his antagonism towards China that has made deep inroads in household goods markets globally. But to link prejudice to wider issue of climate change is his idiotic twaddle.
Terrorist groups like Al Qaida or Islamic State (ISIS) and others purporting to act in the name of Islam is another challenge faced by people the world over. But Donald’s way of addressing it is to blame all Muslims as terrorists.
When a TV channel host asked what he thought should be done to stop attacks on Sikhs being made in US after Sept11 because they’re misidentified as Muslims and how he proposed to educate people about it, Trump evaded and switched over to another topic.
To respect International Laws is an important obligation for all nations but Trump asserts that if elected, would bring back tortures like waterboarding and the families of terrorists would be attacked. Talks like that not only contravenes Geneva Convention but show mental illness of Donald Trump who aspires to become America’s 45Th President.
His bias against women
Donald Trump’s hurtful attacks against woman journalist Megyn Kelly, a former attorney and anchor for fox TV Channel programs are now known the world over. In course of an interview with Kelly on this Channel, she showed him clips of his flip-flopping on Afghanistan, accepting Syrian refugees, and said there are “many other examples” and asked, “How is this telling it like it is?”. An embarrassed Trump claimed that he just likes being “flexible” and can change his mind when presented with new evidence. But was greatly upset and nurtured grudge against her.
Recalling his debate on rival CNN channel, Trump turned downright nasty against Kelly and said, “she gets out and starts asking me all sorts of ridiculous questions and you could see there was blood coming out of her eyes—wherever”
After Fox News hit back over Donald’s ‘sexist verbal assaults’ on Kelly, she has received death threats and says, “someone’s gonna hurt me in the presence of my children”.
Encouraged by his indecent, divisive and vulgar comments Trump’s supporters have targeted another woman, Hillary Clinton the Democrat Presidential hopeful. Some of his supporters display stickers, “Trump that Bitch” on their car bumpers. “If my bitch has vagina it doesn’t mean she should be President of America”. Said another.
Donald Trump has proposed punishment for US women going in for abortion.
In the end
President of America, being the supreme commander of the world’s most powerful army and the leader of world’s top economy is considered to be the one who stands above all monarchs, dictators, or democratically elected rulers elsewhere. He is the most influential person in today’s world.
But a shallow, racist, vain and self-obsessed Donald Trump is not qualified to enter White House and if ever he does, our world may be pushed into a disaster bigger than Second World War that ended innumerable lives the world around and turned countries and continent of Europe into debris.
We hope, nothing like that is going to happen, all the clamour of Trump’s supports notwithstanding, the vote of vast silent majority of American would finally decide the fate of contenders and on day of reckoning, reins of country won’t fall into hands of a bully.
