American carmaker, Tesla’s hottest car – Model 3 was recently spotted on the streets of California, USA during a video shoot. The prototype of the much awaited electric sedan, which broke cover on March 31, has been caught driving on the road for the first time and mind you it looks as spectacular as it did during the unveil. The Model 3 was seen driving behind a Tesla Model S, which came fitted with a camera unit filming the former, giving us a clear perspective of the difference in proportions and design of both models.
Both the Tesla Model 3 and Model S that were caught on camera came in metallic silver body colour. In proportion the Model 3 does look like a compressed version of the Model S, but mostly towards the front end. That said the Model S gets a stylish black chrome grille at the front, while the Model 3 prototype doesn’t get a grille at all. Despite being a four-door, the rear section of the car is more coupe-like, which reminds of the Model X.
When Tesla globally unveiled the Model 3 last month, the company’s CEO, Elon Musk clearly stated that the deliveries for the car will not commence any time before the end of 2017. This seems totally reasonable considering the time and infrastructures that is about to go into producing an all-electric mass market sedan. That being said, what concerns us is the fact that within a week from its unveil the car already received over 325,000 pre-orders, which though sounds impressive, is still a difficult task for Tesla to fulfil all those requests in a timely manner.
One of the major factors that have worked in making the Tesla Model 3 so much popular include the fact that the car is the most affordable product from the company with a base price starting at $ 35,000. Moreover the Model 3 is the first mass-market car from Tesla which will cater to a number of new developing markets as well including India, Brazil, and South Africa.
Coming to the heart of the car, the Tesla Model 3 comes with a total of 7,200 Superchargers, double the number available today which enables the car to propel from 0-96 kmph in just 6 seconds. Moreover even at that speed that Model 3 will be capable of delivering a range of at least 215 miles or 346 km and will come in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options.
