Presence of Donald Trump, a Republican Party’s Presidential nominee, has made election scenario more exotic, enigmatic and funny this time than ever before. Trump never misses to highlight his own capital, wisdom and other merits while condemning others who disagree with his thinking and way of doing things. Trump considers even a sincere advice from his well wishers and supporters as his criticism and would hit back ruthlessly. Two of the earlier American Presidents faced his wrath on such counts.
Hypnotized admirers
But his style hasn’t hurt him much because a segment of US voters actually supports the things he is saying and the way he is saying them.” In this election he has emerged as a leader of political cult whose hypnotized admirers would love him no matter what he did. His campaign rallies continue to be as crowded and raucous as ever.
But with passage of time as Trump’s paradoxical social conduct came to all, his support began slipping and his rating as per some opinion polls went below his Democrat rival Hillary Clinton. As the election date approached closer Trump has become wary of win, his bold postures notwithstanding.
Donald instead of fixing faults at his level, made his campaign chair Paul Manafort the scape goat of his decline and fired him. Now he has hired Stephen Bannon, a highly paid media executive, as his campaign CEO. Also in order to ward off the disgrace he earned by his sexist remarks against women folk, he has promoted Kellyanne Conway, a woman, to be his campaign manager.
Would such tactics improve Trump’s electoral fortune remains a million Dollar question?
Old Habits Die Hard
With success achieved in primary, with lot of fanfare, he emerged as Republican hope for White House. That was the time for Trump to stop making vulgar noises and adopt posture of a sensible person who as future US President would settle America’s economic, social and political woes. But the adage ‘Old habits die hard’ aptly applied in Trump’s case as the Business tycoon came up with string of unconventional and controversial statements in recent days. Besides that he exacerbated his attacks against judiciary, Immigrants, Hispanics, ethnic minorities and America’s Muslim in particular. He derided Republican Senator John McCain, who is hailed by many as a war hero, “because he was captured and tortured”. “He’s not a war hero,” Trump said, “He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.”
Trump’s Alienation
Trump’s belligerent, casual or light-hearted comments over serious issues have estranged many of his supporters. For example, Trump statement that he could shoot someone on the street and “not lose voters” made many to reconsider their vote and support to him. A young university student who was an ardent fan of trump said that his refusal to moderate his remarks has forced him to rethink about favoring him in November. Trump’s prompting the gun owners to target Hillary Clinton has dismayed number of his supporters and his refusal to make vague pledges more specific and realistic, had alienated many. Most frustrating was the insult he heaped on parents of a Muslim soldier who was killed in Iraq. Many also didn’t approve his invitation to Russian hackers to obtain Clinton’s emails.
“He is pushing America back to the Cold War days when people afraid of nuclear war used to make bunkers, every time he opens his mouth, I feel like he is putting us at risk”. Said Kimberly of Louisiana. “I think he’s going to get us all killed” said another.
Unqualified & Racist
It has been established that Trump cares two hoots for the truth while making statements. For example, his free style assertion that Hillary Clinton was founder of ISIS without evidence generated more a mockery of Trump than the intended public ire against his rival. Similarly, his call for gun owners who are anxious about Hillary Clinton (for banning unrestricted gun selling in US) to take the law into their own hands has generated sympathy for Hillary Clinton and has proved counter productive. Again his repeated attacks on a Hispanic federal judge, Paul Mana fort has further isolated Trump and as per the latest opinion poll, many voters described him in words like: “unqualified” and “racist.”
It nevertheless, is a mater of fact that many are seduced by his showmanship and strong-man persona and charisma with variety of his captivating one liners-full of hatred and devoid of specifics and evidences. Trump seems to pursue extreme rightist approach in his social, political and economic outlook and has left “Tea Party” faction of Republican Party far behind in this respect.
In the end
No matter Trump wins or loses in November, but the seeds of hatred and suspicion being sown by him during his campaign are sure to yield a crop of fear and hatred among communities in and around US.
Many would like to know, how does Trumps mind work? How might he go about making decisions in office, were he to become president? Is he a narcissistic, obscene buffoon or political genius, people wonder? But certainly he is the hopeful one for White House, the like of which wasn’t seen in recent times. He has thus become the most debated personality in North American media these days. If he is present on one of the TV live programmes, other channels are talking about him. His antics brought him lot of free publicity but at the same time he has earned the title of ‘the most controversial US presidential aspirant ever’.
People of other countries are anxious to know, if Americans would ever hand over trigger for country’s Nuclear Weapons to Donald Trump in November 2016 and place future of human civilization at risk? Many emphasise to do anything to prevent Trump reaching the Oval Office even if it means voting for a lesser Evil-Hillary Clinton!
