Life Tips With Life Coach : Nina Ganguli (August 12, 2016)

Q:  Hi Nina, I’m a student and I have 2 years left before university.  I have been doing okay in my results but I know that my grades over the next 2 years are really important. I worried that I won’t get good grades and that I won’t get into university.  That would really disappoint my parents!  What should I do?

A: Thank you for this great question!  I am impressed to see that you are thinking about this now.  This is a good thing.  Grades are very important as it provides you with more opportunities and opens more doors to different universities.  Now my next piece of advice is simple to give yet difficult to do! STOP WORRYING!  The only way you are going to be able stop is to take actions that will set you up for success in school.  Here are a few tips that will support you!

  1. Schedule your due dates for all homework, projects and exams.  And also set up a study schedule around these dates
  2. Learn how to study.  Figure out what works for you.  For example, I know that I need to talk about what I’m studying with a study partner and make detailed notes for review
  3. Prioritize school over your social life!  I imagine that your friends are in school too and should be supportive of your goals.  If they are not, then consider if they are the type of friends you need in your life right now.
  4. Get enough rest so you are able to pay attention in class and will be prepared for those pop quizzes
  5. This may sound weird, but exercise; this helps to clear your mind and helps you to perform better.

Don’t stress out about your parents, they love you and want what’s best for you!  Be prepared for the next two years and you will be successful.  The added benefit to this preparation is that it will also set you up for success in university. One last thing, be in communication with your teachers, guidance counsellor and also your parents.  Now is not the time to feel shy about asking questions and taking charge of your academic career!  Good Luck with everything!

It’s my honour to serve you! God bless!
