Q. Hi Nina, I’m really into self-help and growth, but I find that I am really challenged with sticking to the changes I want make in my life, and when I don’t accomplish the things I want to, I feel like a failure. What can I do so I can stay motivated to achieve my goals
A. Thank you for this question! This is the number one obstacle that most people have including my clients, and even myself from time to time. Whenever I send out a poll on how I can support my peeps, this is consistently the number one area that comes up. Here is my answer! First you have to be clear on your goals or what you want and then even more important than that is, you have to be really clear on why you want to achieve those goals. The next thing is to think about what achieving those goals would give you. Try this exercise:
- Type or write out all your goals.
- Now under each goal, write out how your life would change if you achieved those goals
- After that, what is the reason you want your life to be like that.
- Finally, who do you need to be in order to have the life you want? This is really important, because this is all about your mindset. If you have the right mindset to achieve your goals, motivation will come.
To sum it up: in order to meet your goals, you have to be clear and know why you want to achieve those goals. Think about the bigger picture, who will be impacted and who do you need to be to make lasting changes! It all sounds easy, but as with everything in life it requires time, effort and most of all patience! Perseverance is the key! And finally you don’t have to do it alone. Build a support system to hold you accountable. Whether it’s friends and family or a professional, research shows higher success rates in achieving your goals when you have someone by your side to hold you accountable!
It’s my honour to serve you! God bless!
