Two people have died following a house fire in North York early Tuesday morning, prompting an investigation into the cause of the incident.
According to Toronto Fire Services, the fire broke out around 4 a.m. at a detached home on Anthia Drive, near Islington and Steeles avenues. Emergency crews quickly arrived at the scene and managed to bring the fire under control.
A man and a woman, both believed to be elderly occupants of the home, were found inside without vital signs and rushed to hospital. Jim Jessop later confirmed that both individuals were pronounced dead.
Officials said the fire was contained to the house and did not spread to nearby properties. Authorities are now investigating the origin and circumstances of the blaze.
The tragic incident has raised concerns about fire safety, as investigators work to determine what led to the deadly fire.
